October Garden

We’ve had temps in the 20s the last few nights, and snow twice last week totalling 16 inches. Many of the plant leaves look and feel like wilted celery now, viscous spreading goo merging back into the soil. More than half our tree leaves have fallen (and about half the apples, too). I’ve done the final weeding, mulching, and wilt-proofing, put in some new spring bulbs (fritillaria and scylla), as well as most of the final pruning and cutting back for the year.

Here’s how things looked in October, from start to finish. Click on each picture for a larger version.
